Long ago in Korea, before a girl was married, it was very hard for her to leave the house. In fact, many young girls in the noble class were prohibited from leaving their homes.

Back then, most houses were surrounded by walls, almost like large fences. So the girls could go outside but were not allowed outside of these walls. Naturally, they became very curious as to what the world was like on the other side of the walls.

Thus, the Korean seesaw was born….

Children would place a thick board on top of a straw bag or a log for support somewhere in their yard. Then, two people would stand on either side of the board, and going back and forth, they’d take turns jumping.

Every time they were propelled into the air, they could catch a glimpse of the world beyond the walls.

Click here to see just how high they could jump.

Amazing, isn’t it?

But look closely.
Someone has to push down on one side for the other person to see the outside world.
There’s no way to seesaw like this on your own.

I share this analogy with you, because it demonstrates an important point. To achieve anything really worthwhile requires the support of enough good people. Make it your policy to help others to obtain their goals and reach new heights by pushing down on your side of the seesaw, and you’ll see that based on the law of reciprocity they will do the same for you. This may not happen with each and every person you help and that is fine; but more often than not this law will be respected.

Have you seen the movie: The Pursuit of Happyness?

This happens to be one of my favorite movies of all time.
The message is simple and often not fully appreciated.

Have you ever had a dream that you did not protect or talk yourself out of?

Being successful in life and business is a decision – it has nothing to do with fate or your destiny. It has everything to do with being clear about what you want and what you plan to give in very definite terms to get it. Many people in life go through the process of living in an automated way. Some never take the time to figure out exactly who they want to be, and what they plan to do, so they can have what they really want.

When you “want something in life …go get it period.”

Watch this clip and then watch the movie… even if you have seen it before (great learning lessons can be found here and if applied can make all the difference in the world).

There is no such thing as “time management.” The word manage means to hold, mold, shape or form, influence or have direct control over – NONE of which you can do with time. You can’t hold or mold time, you cannot shape it or form it, you cannot influence time (make it go faster, or slow it down and save it for later) nor can you control time.

So what does that leave you with? CHOICE management. You can shape, influence and control, for the most part, your choices and the activities you choose to engage in each day.

Many entrepreneurs say, “I don’t have enough time.” The truth is you have all the time there is. Each of us are given 24 hours in a day or 1,440 minutes – no more, no less. What we choose to do in those hours and minutes is what will determine our success.

Look at your choices as you begin this new week. What activities will you choose to engage in. Will you choose activities which are tension relieving or goal achieving. Will you choose to waste time on low priority busy work or will you choose to do more challenging activities which produce meaningful results?

Manage your choices wisely or your poor choices will manage you and your business.

“The final test of a leader is that he (or she) leaves behind in others the conviction and the will to carry on.” Walter Lippmann

It is easy for employees or individuals to do what is right and perform at a high level when the boss or leader is present. The real test is what happens when the leader is gone. Will they continue to execute with excellence or will they slacken their efforts and accept mediocrity when left to themselves?

Every leader must instill the expectation that it is the standard that is always the focus, not who is there to make sure it is kept. Helping the employees and individuals you lead understand the “why” of their assignments as well as the “how” will ensure they have the conviction to do what is right, even when no one is looking.

What level of conviction are you instilling in those you lead?

“Success or failure in business is caused more by the mental attitude even than by mental capacities.”
Walter Scott

Your attitude truly is your mental compass. It is what drives your thoughts and what ultimately drives your actions and behaviors. Often the difference is not between having a good attitude or a bad attitude – the real difference is found in the slight difference between having a good attitude and a more powerfully focused great attitude.

Attitude has little to do with bouncing off of the walls or seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. It has everything to do with a quiet confidence which focuses on the positive opportunities in any given situation.

A slight shift in your attitude changes your short-term direction and leads to a destinational difference. Where is your attitude leading you? Where is it driving those you lead?

“High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.”
Charles Kettering

Whether you are working with your employees, your children, a group of peers or even when working with yourself – expectations drive performance. Rarely do people rise higher than the expectations placed upon them. (Even if those expectations are self-imposed.)

Start this day by reviewing your expectations of yourself. Then review the expectations you have for the individuals you lead. Have you settled for mediocrity in your personal performance? Have you settled for mediocrity from the people you lead?

Raise your expectations, and always remember to express confidence in people’s ability to achieve greatness and deliver the extraordinary.

Have a Fantastic 5/19/2009

Good morning everyone,

I would like to share with you a video from Napoleon Hill.   Dr. Hill has had the greatest influence on my life. I had the good fortune to study his famous book “Think and Grow Rich” in 1987 when I was 12 and my father gave it to me.  Listen carefully to his message and may it move you to a higher state of consciousness as it did for me.

Over the years my studies have helped me greatly and soon I will be a certified instructor with the Napoleon Hill Foundation which gives me tremendous joy. I look forward to sharing with you ideas and thoughts which can make a huge difference in your life. You have unlimited potential once you take control of your own mind and intelligently direct it to what you want!

Have you ever noticed that all great men and women who have done, or are in the process of doing, important work have the attribute of “Supreme Self-Confidence”?

Before we go any further, let’s define the term: Supreme Self-Confidence is the outward expression of an emotion that communicates to others that the individual in question:

a) Has a firm grasp of reality and the work that needs to be done,
b) Has a major purpose they are diligently working towards,
c) Believes to their core that they can provide a World Class solution,
d) Moves calmly in the direction of their vision undeterred by all circumstances and naysayers.

Is it any doubt why these people tend to be successful? How do you feel when you come across someone you respect who appears to have a plan and communicates through their body language that they confidently have the ability to execute? Most of us feel very good, because deep down this is an attribute we all strive for. These individuals are seen as “islands of paradise” in an ocean of worry, doubt, fear and anxiety perpetrated by the media and individuals with a negative mental attitude.

Now that we have a working definition of “Supreme Self-Confidence” how do we cultivate it in our lives?

1) The first step is understanding exactly who you are in terms of:

a)Your values, beliefs and philosophy of life
b)Your perceived strengths and weaknesses in the major aspects of your life such as your health, relationships, business, career, and overall personality traits etc.

2) The second step is to clearly understand what you want. Most of us set goals based on what we think we can do, or what we know we can do, and not what we really want. We need to have a clear purpose that can be emotionalized to serve as our foundation for building Supreme Self-Confidence.

3) The third step is to realize that thoughts are things and they need to observed and respected. Based on addressing the first two steps our thoughts need to be written down. The process helps to clarify your thinking to ensure you develop a laser like focus that is necessary to achieve your goals. After your write down your thoughts, you need to answer the very important question “Why do I want it?” Do not settle for all the common answers – you must find an answer that you can really become emotional about.

4) The fourth step is to condition your mind. Supreme Self-Confidence comes from conditioning your mind on an ongoing basis. You can do this through the process of auto suggestion which is how we volitionally impact our subconscious mind. As you become emotional, your subconscious mind listens and then controls everything you attract into your life in terms of people and resources. This process is critical and always comes before any sustainable action. You need to clearly see yourself being successful at the task at hand down to the very last detail. As you see this happening in your mind over and over again, you will build a white hot burning desire that will begin to radiate from you with everyone you meet.

5) The fifth step is a heightened sense of awareness. Supreme Self-Confidence requires awareness for how you come across to others. You must become hyperaware of how you dress, how you move, how you greet people, your posture when you sit and when you stand, and the tone and fluctuation of your voice. In short every perceivable attribute that can be observed visually along with your body language that is observed at a subconscious level must be considered. A professional is at their best at all times – always remember this. The above should not be misunderstood to be someone else – just be the highest and best version of yourself.

6) The six and final step is to take action. Taking action shows to your subconscious mind that you are serious and not a wishful thinker. As you take action, the conscious and subconscious mind work together to build momentum in the direction of your definite purpose. Taking action helps you develop a healthy obsession for what you want.

As you think about these six basic steps, I want you to make a commitment to objectively examine yourself in relation to the above every 3 months and make course corrections. This process ensures that you are internally aligned – when this happens you will express this quiet Supreme Self-Confidence to everyone you meet. This self-confidence will in turn draw the people and resources you need to fulfill your vision. As you fulfill your vision, you will use this positive experience to give yourself even more momentum for the next vision you conceptualize and move forward on. This my friends is the secret to how the “Greats” exhibit Supreme Self-Confidence.

Hi Everyone – Dreams Do Come True When You Understand Universal Law!

I just got back from the Bob Proctor 2008 cruise to the Caribbean. I had an incredible time and experienced something very special which is the subject of my blog post today.

One year ago I was on the Bob Proctor cruise when we went to the Mexican Riviera, and as I sat in the first row absorbing everything that was taught I said to myself that -next year I would speak on stage while on the cruise-. This idea made its way from my conscious mind to my sub conscious mind. As I emotionalized this concept, I began to attract the people and resources needed to make my wish come true. I acquired specialized knowledge and followed Universal Law and 1 week before leaving for this cruise an opportunity surfaced to help Steve Siebold with a demo speech to show case how presentation skills can drastically impact a message even using the same words.

Steve and Dawn Siebold are amazing people and I am very grateful for the time they invested in me to prepare this short clip and the continued coaching I receive from them. If you have a dream to speak professionally please visit their website: www.speechworkshop.com and tell them I sent you.
